This painting of Eastern Cottontails (Sylvilagus floridanus) is dedicated to the memory of my dear friend, Regan Russel (1955 – 2020). The species did not arrive here in Ontario until around 1860, but since then it has spread widely, as far north as the southern boreal regions of central Ontario. It is also found throughout most of eastern and midwestern North America, south as far as northern South America. The painting is in oils on an 18 by 14 inch Russian birch pane
