Artist's Description

The Marsh Sandpiper (Tringa stagnatilis) is rather drab of color, but elegant of form and graceful contours and delicacy of pattern. It is medium small for a sandpiper, weighing from about 45 to 120 grams (1.6 to 4.2 ounces), and is the kind of bird most people overlook or dismiss as a small, drab little wading bird. They breed from easternmost Europe through northern Asia, wintering in Africa, southern Asia, the Australasian region, and Australia. The painting of this active, vivacious, noisy little bird is approximately 16 by 20 inches, in oils, on compressed hardboard.

About Barry Kent MacKay

Barry Kent MacKay

Renowned Canadian bird artist, writer, naturalist, and conservationist, Barry Kent MacKay has “always been an admirer of birds, anxious to see them, paint them, and care for them.” Barry’s biological and ecological accuracy has put him in demand for commissions, to illustrate books, scientific journals and various print and digital media. He has painted birds and other wildlife from around the world, often life size, working in oils, watercolours, and acrylics.
