Title
Western Capercaillie, Eastern Subspecies
Artist
Barry Kent MacKay
Medium
Painting - Oil On Compressed Hardboard
Description
The Western Capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) is the world’s largest species of grouse, a mature male weighing up to about seven kilograms (approximately sixteen pounds). It is found only in northern Eurasia, as far south in the west as Spain. However the birds in the eastern part of the range, like the one I have shown in this painting, have white bellies, and are rarely illustrated. I’ve shown part of the breeding display. The painting is in oils on acid-free Masonite, and measures about 11 by 16 inches. $700.00
