Description
In the breeding season the Swamp Sparrow (Melospiza georgiana) usually appears along the edges of marshes, bogs and other wetlands with lots of emergent and bordering vegetation, such as dogwoods, alders and willows. Sometimes they are in the marsh, itself, and on migration they can briefly occur in wetlands, parks, gardens, hedgerows and woodland edge conditions. While they seem to preferentially choose fresh-water wetlands, they also appear in salt-water marshes, especially on migration and in winter. Swamp Sparrows have a wide distribution in North America, east of the mountains and most of the central and southern prairie and desert regions, breeding south to the north-eastern tier of U.S. states, east all the way to Newfoundland and Labrador. In winter they are found from about the Great Lakes south into Florida, parts of the West Indies and Mexico. The painting is approximately life size, is 8 by 10 inches in size, and is done in acrylics on compressed hardboard. Price, including the frame: $490.00. Sold.
