Description

The Mekong Wagtail (Motacilla samveasnae) nests only in the Mekong Valley of Cambodia and Laos, visiting Thailand and Vietnam during migration. What is surprising is that while it lives in some of the most heavily populated areas of the world, it was not known to science until 2001. It had literally been overlooked, mistaken for other wagtail species. It is vulnerable to endangerment because of habitat loss to dams flooding the riverine habitat where it lives.
