Description
The Lesser-striped Swallow (Cecropis abyssinica) is a boldly pretty swallow with a wide range throughout much of sub-Saharan Africa. It is often found around human habitation, particularly in wooded lowlands. Typical of swallows the main food is flying insects, although small fruit may be consumed as well. Across its wide range this swallow shows considerable geographic variation of pattern, especially in the boldness of streaking. Nests are globular structures with tubular entrances, made of mud pellets and attached to undersides of overhanging structures, including rock ledges, tree branches, and eaves and other human-made structures. This painting is 8 by !0 inches in acrylics on illustration board.
