Painting - Acrylic And Mixed Media On Illustration Board
Description
The Gyrfalcon is something of a “signature species” for me, and I have painted it several times. It is a Holarctic species but due to poaching and environmental degradation its numbers have been significantly reduced in many parts of its former range in the high latitudes. Every so often one shows up in my region, in winter. They are polymorphic, or highly variable, some being dark gray, some white, and some fairly heavily mottled. The blackest birds are usually females. They are the largest species of falcon in the world, and associated in the minds of most people with remote, arctic regions. They nest, above the treeline, mostly on cliff edges, where they usually lay two to four eggs.
They consume a variety of birds, especially ptarmigan, waterfowl and seabirds, as well as mammals such as Arctic ground-squirrels, lemmings and Arctic hares. This painting of a female surveying potential nest sites in the high arctic is acrylic and mixed-media on illustration board and is 29 by 16 inches, and fully framed.

Thank you. Jacek, I'm not very good with digital communication and it is best to reach me at Same with everyone...I'd be happy to add anyone to my private mailing list (it's BCCed, so private) to receive images of each painting as I do it, along with a much fuller explanation that is possible here, of the subject (and technique). Just put "Barry" or something like that in the subject line, to catch my eye. I do, and get, a lot of email.
