Artist's Description
This small watercolor shows two species I very often see together, both widely distributed here in North America: the Great Blue Heron and the Double-crested Cormorant. The often nest together in colonies (stealing each other’s nesting material at times) and hunt in the same wetlands, although in entirely different ways. This was one of many paintings used to illustrate the book, The Double-Crested Cormorant: Plight of a Feathered Pariah, by Linda R. Wires.
