Painting - Acrylic On Compressed Hardboard
Description
The Galapagos Hawk (Buteo galapagoensis) is endemic to the Galapagos Islands, meaning it is found only there an nowhere else. I visited the Galapagos with my mother in the 1960s, and later illustrated the first field guide to all the birds found there. I did one approximately life-size painting of the Galapagos Hawk, which sold, and this little study of a preening bird, which I kept for myself. I’m putting it on the market at a low price because I now plan to do a larger painting of the species in oils. The hawks vary in size depending on what island they are from. I saw them first on James Island and that is where the bird in my little painting is from. Although highly variable, adult birds, like the one I painted, the dark colour of the lava that forms so much of their environment. This painting is in acrylics on compressed hardboard. 12 X 9 inches. Price: only $375, including frame.
