Description
The Bare-crowned Antbird (Gymnocichla nudiceps) is a reasonably common bird found in a variety of second growth scrub and lowland woodland clearing habitat through Central America, from Belize to northern Colombia. It is a follower of army ant swarms eating insects and other arthropods and other tiny animals flushed by the ants, but really very little is known about the species, its diet or its breeding. We do know it makes a domed nest of finely woven vegetative material on the ground. I have shown a pair of these sparrow-sized birds. Watercolor on paper. 10 by 8 inches.
