The Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is found across all of Canada, in every U.S. state except Hawaii, and in northern Mexico. They are large raptors whose diet is opportunistic, consisting of fish, including carrion, and those taken from Ospreys harassed into dropping their freshly caught prey, plus various species of birds, mammals and reptiles. They are, of course, not bald at all, but at about the fourth of fifth year of age, as they attain sexual maturity, their heads are entirely white. Young birds are highly variable in plumage, but mostly a mottled brown colour. Large bird, their weight ranges from around three to over six kg (about six and a half to nearly fourteen pounds) with the females averaging about twenty five percent larger than males.
